Education and training programs develop life skills and career opportunities that move low-income individuals out of poverty to self-sufficiency.

The agencies and programs listed in the documents below make up part of the $3.4 million program funding United Way made in central Massachusetts this year. You will notice in the Program descriptions that each of the programs provide services in the one or more of the three basic components for a good life: education, health, and income.

Making an Impact
American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts received $206,590 for their Disaster Services program, to be awarded in ’08-09. The program serves a critical need in our community: to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The American Red Cross’ goal is to stabilize people’s lives by accelerating the recovery process following a disaster. The Disaster Services program improves the quality of life for those impacted by disasters by immediately addressing the basic needs of those individuals – food, clothing, shelter, and mental health counseling. An example of their impact can be felt in the story of Ann and her husband.
Twenty five year old Ann and her husband were just settling into bed after six rigorous hours of moving their four young children (ages 1 through 6) into their new apartment.
