Inspire By Example Awards

United Way of Central Massachusetts honors the outstanding work of volunteers with our Inspire by Example Awards. Dedicated volunteers who demonstrate a commitment to community service are selected to receive special recognition during National Volunteer Week. They are chosen from three categories: youth, adult and business and are recognized for the valuable work they do to strengthen the community.

Business: Unum

Unum Employees Big Brothers Big Sisters Program: Once a week, employee volunteers meet with their little brothers and sisters at the Elm Park Community School. The mission is to provide adult mentors to at-risk children at the elementary school. Unum management fully supports this program by allowing employees to take an hour a week away from the office to mentor these children.

The Unum Employees Junior Achievement Program: For more than 20 years, Unum has partnered with Junior Achievement to provide dozens of volunteers for classroom activities and Groundhog Job Shadow Day. Unum also supports Junior Achievement through generous grants to fund classes and other initiatives.
