For 85 years, the United Way of Central Massachusetts has played a critical role in the local community by helping those in need. As community leaders, we convene local resources - donors, volunteers, partners, and agencies to address the most critical human needs, and create a positive, measurable impact in the community.

United Way's Facebook Challenge
|

|
UWCM is participating in a little friendly competition among United Ways across the country, The United Way Challenge on Facebook. This contest is designed to be a fun way for United Ways to inspire and engage the younger members of their community.
After winning third place in Phase 1 of this national contest, (thanks to those who joined our cause!), UWCM is in a good position to win even more grant money for our community in Phase 2 of the Facebook Challenge. Just join our “Helping Little Learners,” cause which supports our focus area of Ensuring Children’s Readiness for School.

American Human Development Report reinforces LIVE UNITED strategy
United Way of America's new LIVE UNITED framework focuses on EDUCATION, INCOME, and HEALTH, stressing their importance in advancing the common good.
The Human Development Report, an independent report commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme, is the product of a selected team of leading scholars, development practitioners and members of the Human Development Report Office of UNDP. In this report, statistics like "Americans live shorter lives than citizens of virtually every Western European and Nordic country", lead researchers to highlight a framework for change that echoes the LIVE UNITED plan.

UWCM News

UWCM is pleased to announce the new youth funded programs for the 2008 competitive grant process.
The highlight of this year’s grants is the approval by the Board of Directors to embark on a strategic initiative that would focus on building partnership and collaboration among three important aspects of a youth’s development: School/Community/Family. Through the new Building Brighter Futures with Youth School, Community, and Family Partnership, United Way will work to create a strategic partnership among these important constituents with a focus to improve the academic outcomes of Worcester’s youth.
In addition, United Way will invest almost $1.4 million into 29 programs for youth at 19 local agencies. This year, the focus area of Supporting Positive Youth Development requested proposals from area non-profit agencies that would offer programs in two strategy areas: 1) Youth Development and Future Economic Opportunity and 2) Mental Health and Well Being.
