Diana Lados, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and founding director of the university’s Integrative Materials Design Center, recently received the inaugural Constance Tipper Silver Medal from the World Academy of Structural Integrity at the academy’s International Conference on Fracture held in Beijing. The medal, which recognizes international achievement at mid-career, will be awarded once every four years. Ms. Lados was honored for her research, technical accomplishments and pioneering contributions in the fields of metal fracture and fatigue, and her successful efforts to transfer knowledge to industrial applications.

Erik G. Wexler, president and chief executive officer of St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, and attorney John Spillane of Spillane Spillane LLP have been chosen to lead the United Way of Central Massachusetts’ annual campaign this year. Mr. Wexler has been the CEO of St. Vincent Hospital since July 2011. Mr. Spillane is the senior partner of Spillane Spillane LLP and has been a practicing attorney since 1957.

Senior Living Residences has announced that Jennifer LaCroix of Holden has been hired as executive director of Cornerstone at Milford. Ms. LaCroix has more than 12 years of management and leadership experience in assisted living, memory care and hospitality. Prior to jointing Senior Living Residences, Ms. LaCroix served as executive director of Tatnuck Park at Worcester.

The Braley Wellington Group has announced the addition of Laurie Lavallee as assistant vice president of C.D. Whitney Agency, a Millbury-based insurance agency. Ms. Lavallee, a resident of the Blackstone Valley, has more than 25 years of insurance experience, specializing in commercial property, liability, automobile, workers’ compensation and financial reporting/systems integration. Most recently, she was a commercial underwriter for Harleysville/Nationwide Insurance Co.

Lea Ann Scales of Holden has been appointed vice president of access, transition and development at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, where she will oversee the college’s many K-12 programs and partnerships, development, planning and institutional research, and the MWCC Foundation Inc. She replaces senior vice president Sharyn Rice, who retired after 25 years at MWCC. Ms. Scales previously served as assistant vice president of public relations and marketing at Worcester State University since 2008. Prior to that, she served as an administrator at MWCC for more than 10 years, most recently as associate vice president of public affairs

The Leominster Credit Union board of directors recently elected the following officers for 2012-13: Anthony A. Gasbarro of Leominster, chairman; Michael J. Sauvageau of Fitchburg, vice chairman; Giulio G. Greco of Leominster, treasurer; Joyce A. LaFleur of Leominster, assistant treasurer; and Nancy L. Graves of Leominster, clerk. Joining the officers on the board are Amedeo E. Bilotta of Lunenburg, Bruce J. Bolivar of Holden, Andrew D. Cousins of Sterling, Henry C. Kulik Jr. of Westminster, Joseph V. Quintal of Clinton and Richard A. Sheppard of Sterling.
